How to Help Your Credit Card Debt

There are a number of solutions out there to help you with your debts and become debt free. I know you may think it's not possible, especially if your debts are extremely high and you're considering bankruptcy. Before you decide to go that route, please consider some alternatives, as bankruptcy will hurt your credit score for quite some time.

If you have good credit, you may qualify for a low interest balance transfer on your credit cards. This alone will help you eliminate your debt since a lower rate of interested on your credit card means lower finance charges, which in turn, allows a larger portion of your payments to go toward your principle. Applying for a credit card? Watch for low introductory interest rates for an extended period of time, as well as zero percent interest rates for some cards as long as six months.

You may be able to eliminate or reduce your debt if you own a home by applying for a home equity debt consolidation loan, or by simply refinancing your home. Your residence secures the home equity loan, which works great for good or bad credit, and equity loans usually have shorter terms and lower interest rates. This can reduce your debt anywhere from four to eight years, so take advantage of home equity loans that they offer. Mortgage refinancing is another option. By refinancing your current mortgage, and borrowing on the equity in your home, you can use the money you receive at the closing for debt consolidation, and other big expenses you may have incurred. Since you are creating another (new) mortgage, be prepared that you'll have to pay the fees and closing costs. Don't own a home and have bad credit? There are services online for debt management and consolidation. These companies have counselors to help you by contacting your creditors and working with them to lower your interest rates. They can legally reduce your debt by 50 to 60% and have you debt free in as little as a couple of years. I hope you take these tips I've given you, and put them to use, and I always advise to be diligent in selecting a debt management company. Be aware of the fact also that there are people and companies out there that take advantage of people that are trying to help themselves, so again do your homework and do background checks on these companies. In time you will be out of debt and back on your feet, count on it!
